Hello, all! As you may know, we
planned and completed a special event for the first time called Clear
the Queue; while we didn't quite get there, we did have a great time and
made some new friends! We've learned a lot about what to do (and some
things what not to do), but overall it was a great experience for everybody.
promised, I sat down and got a bunch of stuff I thought was interesting
based on the metrics that I was able to gather during the event.
Technically I did it twice, because the first time there were ~80
duplicates in my dataset :(
So on to the fun!
people took part, completing a grand total of 267 transcriptions. 90.3%
of those transcriptions made it through the Reddit spam filter and were
posted, which is actually a lot more than expected! The top three most
prolific volunteers are:
Here's a lovely chart of all the volunteers who completed more than 10 transcriptions!
Along the same lines, here's the chart for less than 10.
The average transcription had 714 characters, and if we map that out per volunteer, we end up with /u/arfie99 completely dominating one end of the graph thanks to a single 3k character transcription.
As far as subreddits go, we completed transcriptions for 29 partner subs. Sorting by number of transcriptions completed per sub shows that there's a pretty heavy weight towards r/me_irl, r/comedycemetery, and r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns,
though it can be argued that at the time those are just the most
represented posts in the queue at the time. (I don't have those numbers
handy right now, though.)
Finally, we'll close out with my personal favorite chart: average characters per transcription vs total transcriptions per volunteer.
to everybody who participated; we hope that the next time we do this
that we'll have an even greater participation -- I know that next time I
personally won't have to spend so much time babysitting the bots, so I
hope I'll be able to knock out a lot more :)
you checked out our map of volunteers yet? It's totally anonymous, and
if you're a volunteer of ours we'd really love for you to add your city!
Take a look at the form here and you can see the current map here!
