Anosmia, the congenital lack of a sense of smell, is a tragic condition that affects roughly 3% of Americans worldwide. As firm believers in the necessity of accessibility, we decided that we weren't doing enough to support this significant fraction of the most important population in the world: Americans.
Starting immediately, we will be implementing a new format guide for correctly and uniformly transcribing the scent of images, gifs, and videos in Reddit posts, to more helpfully provide nasal context for the scenes depicted. You can find a full write-up of our newest format guide here, and we strongly suggest all our members, greenhorns or veterans, pay the page a visit to make sure they're ready to continue transcribing under these new guidelines.
And now, our traditional update:
We've just passed over eight million, eight thousand, one hundred and thirty-five volunteers posts completed, although you still haven't cleared the queue despite all that so we're still disappointed in those numbers.
We've just passed sixty-nine thousand, four hundred and twenty registered volunteers, although we suspect that at least 3.5 percent of those are bots disguised as humans. Although, since they just get called bots anyway, it all balances out.
We're now sponsored by Subway®. "Subway®. Eat Fresh." will become a mandatory part of the footer in a few weeks. Starting now, please dine only at Subway® and eat only Subway® while acting in your capacity as a Transcriber of Reddit.
Gotcha. Happy April Fools Day! Hope y'all gave as good as you got got, and if you didn't, now's a great time to start planning for next year!
Our actual numbers and announcements:
We're at 2,089 registered volunteers, and we love each and every one of them <3
Together, we've managed to complete a ridiculous 62,377 posts. That's a lot of typing! Great work!
Our Discord has grown to 512 members!
We're still working on something that we know you'll love and we're really excited about it, you should be hearing about it soon!
